You always need to be wary of those who claim to have some special enlightenment that others haven’t received. And yet as Christians, we claim exactly that; a special revelation of God Himself.

On His way to the cross, where He would die to pay for the sins of the world, for your sin and mine so that we could be forgiven, so that we could spend eternity in His Presence, Jesus said something odd; something challenging; something that demanded clarification. Here it is:

John 14:18,19 I will not leave you all alone like orphans. I will come back to you. In a very short time the people in the world will not see me anymore. But you will see me. You will live because I live.

In other words, you’ll have a special revelation of me, while others won’t. You’ll live forever with me, while others won’t. Yep, that warrants clarification. So…

John 14:22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “Lord, how will you make yourself known to us, but not to the world?”

Good question. Very good question.

John 14:23  Jesus answered, “All who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them. My Father and I will come to them and live with them.

How, ultimately, do we know Jesus? How do we experience Him firsthand? By loving Him and obeying Him. It’s to an obedient soul such as this that He would reveal Himself; that His Father and He, by the Spirit, would come and live and journey with.

Don’t ever underestimate the importance and the power of obedience in your relationship with Jesus. Just don’t!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
