An unfulfilled Christian life is one of the most common things you’ll find amongst God’s people – a life that seems to fall so far short of all that God promises, a life that begs the question – Does this Christianity thing actually work?

If God is truly God, then He can’t lie and He can’t fail. Anything He promises – and He promises rather a lot – He has to deliver on.

So many people kind of believe in God’s promises – peace, joy, an abundant life – but somehow those things never seem to arrive. Why is that?

It’s not that Jesus promised us an easy life. No, if anything, following Him makes life much more difficult as we’re called to deny ourselves, to take up our cross, to go against the flow.

But there’s one thing more than any other that robs a person of all the promises that God makes. It’s the little compromises: A bit of cheating here, a quick flirtation there. No one will notice. In any case, it’s only a little thing. It doesn’t really matter, does it?

Wise old King Solomon once wrote this:

Song of Songs 2:15 Catch the foxes for us—the little foxes that spoil the vineyard. Our vineyard is now in bloom.

Now, that was written in the context of the little things that can undermine a marriage, but it’s also true of the little things that can spoil any relationship, including our relationship with God.

Listen up. Your life is meant to be in full bloom just like that vineyard, bearing rich, abundant fruit. But that’s never going to happen if you keep allowing the little foxes to spoil your vine.

What little compromises are robbing you of the promises of God? Are they really worth it?

Do yourself a favour. Catch them. Kick them out of your vineyard.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
