Some would have us believe that following Jesus means wall to wall miracles in our lives. Back-to-back breakthroughs. Each post a winner. And that would be great, except that’s not how it works.

Have I seen God perform miracles? Sure. The first time I prayed for healing, this older woman came forward and asked that we pray for her painful knees, which I duly did.

I then avoided her for weeks, knowing for sure, that nothing had changed. When she did finally corner me, with a beaming face she was able to tell me that all the pain was gone. Hallelujah! I was shocked. But there you go, God does perform miracles, even through one as faithless as me.

And yet, how often have you or I prayed for something, fervently, just to see that prayer answered with a firm “No”? Jesus to be sure, performed a lot of miracles. But have a listen to His take:

John 2:23-25 Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover festival. Many people believed in him because they saw the miraculous signs he did. But Jesus did not trust them, because he knew how all people think. He did not need anyone to tell him what a person was like. He already knew.

Those very same people ended up shouting “Crucify Him, crucify Him!” Every now and then God will do something supernaturally out of the ordinary, in His time, according to His will.

But the greatest miracle of all, is a life transformed by faith in Jesus Christ, not one that chases after supernatural trinkets, as though that were the norm.

Friend, let your life be touched and transformed, set free from the power of sin. That’s why Jesus died and rose again for you. That’s the greatest miracle of all.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
