Question: What can you ask God for in prayer? Is there anything off limits? Is there anything too big? Is there anything too small?

For many Christians, prayer is one of those optional extras. It’s something we fit in now and then. And it seems that we’re especially good at fitting in a quick prayer, when things aren’t going so well:

Oh God, please help! Oh God, please stop the pain! Oh God … when are you finally going to show up?

Sound familiar?

Imagine that someone you love only talks to you when they’re in trouble. That wouldn’t make for much of a relationship now, would it?

I wonder sometimes if we don’t have a completely wrong view, a wrong understanding of prayer. Because the only sort of prayer that the Bible teaches us about is the sort that has powerful results.

Now, when you think of it that way, you have to ask yourself … So, why do I keep on banging my head up against a brick wall? What’s the matter with me that I only go to God when I’m in trouble?

John 15:7 Stay joined together with me and follow my teachings. If you do this, you can ask for anything you want, and it will be given to you.

When we hang close to Jesus, you and I, when we abide in Him, when we stay joined together with Him, what happens naturally is that we follow His teachings. We end up wanting what He wants. And under those circumstances, at any point, you can ask for anything you want, and it will be given to you.

Imagine if you lived your life as though that were true.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Blessings to You and Your Ministry.
I absolutely love listening to your program each morning on my drive to work.
I am requesting prayer for myself and my family. My heart is hurting badly and so are my children from a generation curse stem from my mother and father. It hurts really bad when your very mother sees you looks at you as the worse thing ever happens in her life. My children are now feeling the effect of that. Please for us. As you mention God answers powerful prayer.
Thank you so much.

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you for sharing those thoughts.

Equally important as we hold on to this promise is to pray always and declare the promises of God over our lives and those of our loved ones.

God bless you ever so richly as you walk with Him day by day.

When we pray we are communicating with God. He’s hears all our prayers. God said in his words he will never leave us or forsake us. God is with us no matter where we go. Or how far we go He will always be there for us. So I’m not worried about my children God is with them always. God is with me also.

I read the devotionals every day and they give me comfort. I’m very troubled by various personal things and struggle each day but the readings help a lot. I’m also very grateful so thank you. I do believe in the Lord and speak to Him each day but struggle to feel I’m doing the right thing. Thank you for the effort that goes into the messages they really are very helpful in coping each day. God bless you!
