Life is full of seasons. Seasons to be serious, and seasons for having a good laugh. Times when things are getting us down and times to lighten up a bit. Yep, life is full of seasons.

The other day my wife came home and she said, “Honey, there’s a problem with the car. I think there’s water in the carburettor.”

“Water in the carburettor?!” I said. “That’s impossible!!”

She said, “No, no – seriously, there’s water in the carburettor.”

“Hang on, you don’t even know what a carburettor is – how can you possibly tell me that there’s water in the carburettor.”

But … she was insistent, so eventually I relented and I said, “Alright, alright. I’ll take a look at it. Where’s the car?”

She said, “In the swimming pool.”

I love that joke – every time I think about it, it makes me chuckle.

Hey, sometimes we get too serious in life. You know that whole furrowed brow thing, that serious look on our face. And sure, there is a time to be focussed and serious. There are times when things will get us down. There are seasons when that happens to us, as it happened to Job back there in the Old Testament. But then … there are seasons for laughter and joy too.

Job 8:21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouts of joy.

God is an amazing God and laughter and joy; those things are a gift from Him. So if things are getting you down a bit, if you’re finding yourself doing a bit too much navel-gazing, get out there and have a good belly laugh.

Laughter may not be the best medicine, but it is pretty darned good, isn’t it?! Water in the carburettor …

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
