Philippians 4:7,8 And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds. Brothers and sisters, continue to think about what is good and worthy of praise. Think about what is true and honourable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.

We don’t think too much sometimes about the television shows that we watch, or the people we hang out with. Sadly, we don’t think all that much about who or what we allow to influence us … and that, that’s very much to our detriment.

Just recently my wife and I moved house, and one of the first things that we did was fit burglar proof screens on the windows, dead-bolts on the doors and a security alarm throughout the house.

When it comes down to it, we all like to know that our homes are safe and secure. Imagine waking up to find a burglar in your bedroom. Thieves, after all, come to steal, kill and destroy.

But life – living – sure, we live at home but you and I, we experience life deep inside somewhere in our hearts. Surely then, we need to be safe there too.

But I wonder sometimes whether we guard our thoughts and feelings in the same way that we guard our homes. Look at some of the rubbish that God’s own people watch on television. Now I’m not talking about being narrow-minded, but the junk that people watch is like inviting a thief into your heart to steal and kill and destroy.

Bottom line? Let the peace of God stand guard over your thoughts, your feelings, your heart. Turn your thoughts away from the rubbish and think about the good stuff; the God stuff.

Don’t invite thieves into your heart.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
