Luke 11:10,13 Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them ... Even you who are bad know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit to the people who ask him.

It was an incredible revelation to me that God would even bother with me – that someone as insignificant as me would come to His attention, that He would even want to have a relationship with me. Have you ever had those thoughts running through your mind, too?

A lonely widow recently wrote and asked me this question:

You know something strange happened the other day. I had the most amazing experience of God. Like He was there. I wasn’t sure if He loved me, but now I think that He might. What do you think? My friend thinks I’ve gone crazy.

Here’s what I think. God shows up in the most amazing places. He shows Himself to people who don’t expect it. He puts His arms around them, holds them close and whispers “I love you.”

We somehow imagine that He only shows up for the spiritual high-flyers. And yet, if you gave Him the choice, the Jesus of the Bible would much rather knock on the door of a lonely widow who’s not even sure whether He loves her.

So if you’re feeling a bit lonely, a bit on the dry side, a bit as though God’s a million miles away, then listen to these words from Jesus Himself:

Luke 11:10,13 Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them … Even you who are bad know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit to the people who ask him.

Don’t give up. Don’t stop expecting God to fellowship with you. Don’t settle for a dry, cerebral Christianity when what He has for you is a rich, dynamic relationship.

After all, the reason Jesus died for you was so you could be close to Him.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
